Education & Community Outreach

In addition to our annual Performing Arts Series and Youth Theatre Program, we provide other arts opportunities for the young and young-at-heart.

Student Internships

We offer volunteer internships for students who are interested in marketing, box office, technical operations and more. Students gain practical and specialized skills through SMHS theatrical productions, our Summer Youth Theatre Program, school-day box office administration, and student technical crew. For some students, internship experience can lead to paid part-time work for rental and touring events.

“SMPAC goes above and beyond working with students to teach the skills and things that are difficult to teach in the standard classroom.”

— Deanna McCarty, SMHS Teacher and Advisor

Community Outreach

With the financial support of our sponsors and donors, we bring performing arts experiences directly into the community. Contributions support our Senior Living Outreach Program, which provides uplifting arts experiences to those who are no longer able to visit the theatre. They also make it possible for us present live music featuring local artists at the South Milwaukee Downtown Market and other community events.

“We truly appreciate the relationship we share and the performances the SMPAC bring to us.”

Visiting Artist Workshops

As part of our Performing Arts Series, we work with touring artists to host master classes, workshops and performances for our students and community. We collaborate with teachers and staff in all disciplines to provide meaningful experiences for students who might not otherwise have opportunities to participate in the arts.

“Looking around the room and seeing students completely engaged, there was no question that [workshop presenter Shaun Boothe] reached a lot of them.”

- Chris Daniels, Work-Based Learning Coordinator,
School District of South Milwaukee

Sidewalk Serenades during COVID-19

SMPAC staff and Council members ventured out on a few “Sidewalk Serenades” to visit our sponsors and supporters. We also wanted to thank health care workers and first responders. In an effort to say “thank you,” we arranged a few special visits, including a parking lot performance for the residents of Howard Village. These small but significant efforts truly lifted spirits, including ours.
