Interacting Instead of Distracting
Saturday’s performance ARENA Dances: The Main Street Project gave patrons a message to ponder regarding how we interact to others in our immediate space with distractions of social media every where. Through abstract, modern dance, the director encouraged us to form our own observation of his message. Discussion after the performance during the after show “talk back” with the dancers and director, Mathew Janczewski, focused on how the show made us think about our relationships among distractions of texting, facebook, instagram, and a slew of other digital communications. We are encouraged to be aware of the space we are inhabiting and focus on engaging with the people right in front of us. How do you feel about where we’re headed in communicating with each other?

Dal Drummer – President, South Milwaukee Performing Arts Council
At our 2014-15 Performing Arts Series Preview Event in June, Chad Piechocki announced that he had made the difficult decision to leave SMPAC after being chosen for the Managing Director position with Present Music, a major Milwaukee-based arts organization that produces new music concerts. We will miss Chad, and wish him well in his new position. Here is an excerpt from his farewell statement.
Welcome to our 10th anniversary season. It is with much excitement and anticipation that we present 10 shows to celebrate this milestone. As with any major anniversary, this is a chance to reflect and pay tribute to the tremendous vision and support that created and sustains this vibrant performing arts center. It also invites us to look ahead to what SMPAC can do in the future for the citizens, families, and students of South Milwaukee and the arts patrons of greater Milwaukee.
