George and Charlotte Hay, aging actors who never quite made "The Big Time", and their financially strapped, talent-poor repertory company, are housed at a tiny theatre in Buffalo in the early 1950s when a miracle happens. The lead in Frank Capra’s new movie has fallen down the stairs, and now Mr. Hollywood himself is flying to Buffalo to look for a replacement – at the Hay theatre! Unfortunately for poor George and Charlotte, everything that could possibly go wrong, does!

Tommy Emmanuel

Website
Two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel makes his return to the SMPAC this fall. This legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans over four decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered hundreds of thousands of loyal fans worldwide. His unique style – which he calls "finger style" – is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass and drum parts, Tommy plays all that and more on one guitar. You won't want to miss Tommy Emmanuel's live show that displays his pure love for the music and his delight in sharing it with the world, one audience at a time.

Leo Kottke & Leon Redbone

Leon Redbone's website
Try and Stop Me, the title of Leo Kottke’s new album encapsulates the spirit of the man himself – profoundly original, a little cantankerous perhaps, a deep talking Midwestern raconteur whose quick wit is matched by his astounding virtuosity on the six and 12-string guitars. For the past three decades, Kottke has been unrelenting in his pursuit of a unique musical vision that has placed him among the foremost acoustic guitar stylists of our time. Kottke’s ability to embrace folk idioms and pop melodies as readily as he assimilates jazz and classical influences makes him unique among guitar virtuosi. For all its technical brilliance, wicked syncopation and harmonic sophistication, Kottke’s music is eminently accessible.
With his iconic disguise of white fedora, jacket and sunglasses, Leon Redbone has, for decades, remained musically resonant and personally elusive. At the core of his initial calling was the desire to simply honor songs from the past. Over the course of his career, Redbone has continued his love affair with tunes from the turn-of-the-century, flapper-era radio ditties, Depression-spawned ragtime and World War II folk-jazz. If there is one common element to Redbone’s diverse music it’s his mastery of his acoustic guitar. It is easy to get lost in his stage exploits and overlook what a truly fine player he is – fingerpicking with a ragtime bounce or jumping between chords with the grace of a hurdler.
